Alt Codes for Text Messaging

Alt codes are text combination used for typing additional symbols that are not available in a standard keyboard layout. These are frequently used in text messaging and social networking and also increasingly being used in mobile networking. Most of the symbols used in text messaging can be typed using these text combinations. You can decorate your twitter, facebook, and myspace profiles with these cute looking icons. You can also create some useful text symbols like umlauts, copyright, trademark, registered sign, euro, pound, etc. right from your keyboard. Alt codes are available only in windows platform, both in desktops and laptops and so if you have one, you can check it right now.

Steps to create Alt Codes

1. Search for the symbol you want to type and find the Alt code.
2. Put your cursor over the area such as the message box.
3. Enable Number Lock by pressing on the number lock key on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard. This will bring up the green indicator light, which means that the numeric key pad is on.
4. Press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard, you can try keys both on the left and the right one and if one does not work the other would may.
5. While pressing the Alt key type the Alt code in with Keypad keys. The code needs to be entered on the Numeric keypad and not on the number keys on the top.
6. Release all the keys, the number keys and the Alt key. Now you can see that the symbol appears at the cursor position.

Like this way you can type almost 376 characters using the keyboard.

Here is a list of all the Alt Code characters
